Chinese Schools Inter-team tourney attracts field of 300

KUCHING: About 300 players from 19 teams will take part in the Kuching-Samarahan divisions Chinese Independent Primary and Secondary Schools Inter-Team Badminton Tournament at CHMS No. 3 school hall from July 25-26.

The event organised by CHMS No. 3 Alumni Association’s Badminton Club is divided into the Secondary Schools/Associations Inter-Team and Primary Schools Inter-Team categories.

Participating teams in the Secondary Schools/Associations Inter-Team are CHMS No. 1 Alumni Association, CHMS No. 3 Alumni Association Red, CHMS No. s Alumni Association Blue, CHMS No. 1 A, CHMS No. 1 B, CHMS No. 3 Red, CHMS No. 3 Blue, CHMS No. 4, Teacher and Staff Association of CHMS No. 1, 3, 4 and Serian Public Secondary School.

This competition is based on one boys’ doubles, one girls’ doubles and one mixed doubles which can be a girl-boy pair or a student-teacher combination.

As for the Primary Schools Inter-Team, the teams are: SJK Chung Hua No.1 A, SJK Chung Hua No.1 B, SJK Chung Hua No. 2, SJK Chung Hua aNo. 3 A, SJK Chung Hua No. 3 B, SJK Chung Hua No. 4 A, SJK Chung Hua No. 4 B, SJK Chung Hua No. 5 A, SJK Chung Hua No. 5 B, SJK Chung Hua No. 6 A, SJK Chung Hua No. 6 B, SK Song Kheng Hai, SJK Pending, SJK Chung Hua Bau, SJK Chung Hua Padawan, SJK Chung Hua Batu 4 1/2 and SJK Chung Hua Syn San Too.

Format of play is based on three boys/men’s doubles and two mixed doubles.

Organising chairman Ho Ai Ming, who was pleased with the overwhelming response to the tournament, thanked all the participating teams for their strong support.

He also expressed his gratitude to CHMS No. 3 teachers and students as well as the school alumni association badminton club for helping with the organising of the two-day event.

Ho welcomed badminton enthusiasts to turn up at CHMS No. 3 school hall on competition days to watch the matches. Entrance is free.

Meanwhile, in a simple ceremony on Thursday, Ho received a sponsorship from Hai Lian Stationery Sdn Bhd in the form of stationery as prizes for the primary schools inter-team category.
