ALOR SETAR: Police have found the knife believed to be used by a woman to butcher her baby girl into eight pieces at a house in Kampung Manggol, Jitra.

Kubang Pasu district police chief, Supt Abdul Rahim Abdullah said a 20cm vegetable knife was found in a white polystrene container in the bathroom of the house at 6.15pm, on Sunday.

He said the suspect, who was discharged from Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital  here, had led police to the scene and showed them the weapon she used.

“Police have seized the knife,” he said in a statement, here yesterday.

He said the suspect, who is still single, was freed on police bail Sunday evening while waiting for the baby’s DNA report.

Abdul Rahim said the completed investigation report would be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for charging at the Jitra court under Section 318 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty, the suspect is liable to be jailed for up to two years or fined, or both.

On July 7, a 31-year-old woman was detained following the discovery of several body parts of a newborn baby in the tank of the toilet at her grandfather’s house.

Meanwhile, Marang police arrested a father and son for selling and distributing fire crackers and fireworks worth RM6,000 after raiding a house on Saturday.

District acting Police chief, DSP Mohd Adli Mat Daud said police detained the duo, aged 55 and 20, after a tip off which led to the raid on the house at Taman Desa Darul Iman 2, at 12.30pm.

“Police found numerous plastic packages containing various types of fire crackers and fireworks hidden in a store. We believe they were brought in from a neighbouring country for sale and distribution in the district.

“This is the first such seizure by Marang police this year,” he told a media conference at the Marang District Police Headquarters, yesterday.

According to Mohd Adli, the father from Sungai Kerak was also detained for the same offence, last year.

“This is the second offence by the father. His son, who is a barber is still learning the ropes,” he said adding that case would be investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 which carries a seven-year jail and RM10,000 fine or both. — Bernama
