Woman dies, daughter hurt in struggle with snatch thieves

KUALA LUMPUR: A 47-year-old woman was killed and her daughter seriously injured when the motorcycle they were riding skidded into a drain while struggling with two snatch thieves in Ukay Perdana, Ampang on Sunday.

Ampang Jaya police chief, ACP Khairuldin Saad said the incident occurred at about 5.10pm near a petrol station on the MRR2 from the direction of Taman Melawati to Ampang.

He said the dead victim, Salimah Salim, and her 27-year-old daughter who were on a motorcycle grappled with two men who attempted to snatch Salimah’s gold chain.

“According to witnesses, the victim was said to be struggling with two local men in their 20’s, resulting in the victim skidding into a drain and she died at the scene. Her daughter was seriously injured on her hip, both hands and legs, and was sent to Ampang Hospital,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Khairuldin said the suspects were believed to be riding a Yamaha 125z with black sports rims and police were tracking them down. — Bernama
