SIBU: Goodwill Club survived a late onslaught to edge Cheh Ming Sdn Bhd 59-54 to lift the Boy’s U-17 title of the Sibu Division Basketball Championship which ended at Sg Antu Basketball Court on Monday night.

It was point for point until 7-7 before Goodwill pulled ahead 17-9 in the first quarter.

In the second period, Cheh Ming players marshaled by Nathan Wong and Kenny Ngu combined for 12 points to pull Cheh Ming to within six points.

In the third quarter, Goodwill players, with chief coach Tiong Chiong Ming putting pressure on them at the touchline, staged a strong fight back.

Spearheaded by state U-17

player Eddie Wong, U-15 divisional player Lim Chong Yi and Ivan Chew, they widened the lead to 13 points.

A fourth quarter rally saw Cheh Ming scored 11 unanswered points and pulled level 50-50.

Try as they did but Cheh Ming players just failed to take the lead.

Goodwill players mounted a defensive wall and secured nine penalty points to finally win 59-54.

Top scorers for Goodwill were Eddie (17 points), Ivan (15) and Tiong Ing Kim (12).

Nathan led Cheh Ming with 15 points with three 3-pointers.

Huat Yong Enterprise took the third placing after demolishing Berjaya Rejang Enterprise 96-44.
