RM551,569 for repair of quake-hit mosques

KOTA KINABALU: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Jamil Khir Baharom yesterday presented RM551,569.76 to the State Government for the rehabilitation of mosque and surau’s affected by the earthquake last month.

According to Jamil, the amount was raised by JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia), Tabung Haji and Jawi (Federal Islamic Department).

The ceremony to hand over the monies raised was carried out at the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman’s official residence at Sri Gaya near here.

“We were made to understand that several mosques and suraus were affected by the quake and need to be restored,” he said.

Meanwhile, Musa thanked the Federal Government as well as the bodies involved in the fund raising for the donation in aid of the earthquake in Ranau.

He said that the funds raised would be used specifically for the restoration of mosques and suraus at the affected district.

“The assistance will be able to reduce the burden in Sabah,” he said.

Also present at the event were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin and Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.
