Ismail took over the duty and responsibility as commanding officer of the 10th Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment from Lt-Col Jamaluddin Yaacob on Jan 14, 2013.

Hailed from Grik, Perak, Ismail joined the military on Aug 17, 1991. He is married to Norliza Yahya and has seven children. His hobbies are parachuting and skydiving.
