Thousands visit Dr Annuar on first day of Hari Raya

SIBU: About 2,000 well-wishers from all walks of life thronged Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee’s residence on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

A jovial mood and laughter coupled with the fine weather spruced up the festive ambience.

Vehicles were parked bumper-to-bumper along both sides of Kangkong Road leading to Dr Annuar’s house.

Among the early birds were longhouse chiefs from Nangka constituency and Federation of Seven Clans Association led by its president Chai Tien Sian.

Later, United People’s Party (UPP) Pelawan branch led by its chief Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau arrived. She was later seen sharing a light moment with Dr Annuar and members of his family.

The UPP Pelawan branch chief and members also visited Sibu police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi on the first day of the celebration. Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Sibu led by its vice-treasurer Richard Wong Ei Sing also paid Dr Annuar a Raya visit.

Other guests included Rajang Port Authority chairman Vincent Goh and Sibu Rural District Council deputy chairman Oliver Kuo. Reverend Father Ferdinand Vergeer who will be returning to Holland early next month, also joined in the festive celebration at Dr Annuar’s house.

SUPP Dudong branch chairman Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck and deputy chairman Dato Sri Dr Benny Lee arrived later.

SUPP Bukit Assek chairman Chieng Buong Toon and SUPP Bawang Assan chairman Robert Lau also came. The visitors were treated to mouth-watering food and drinks at the open house.

Meanwhile, Dr Annuar hoped that the tradition of Raya visit be maintained for the next generation.

“I hope the younger generation will learn from this to foster their bonding and rapport for it can strengthen the social cohesion among the people from various backgrounds.” He also said it was important for the people to continue treasuring the prevailing peace, security and harmony.
