New ETS sets need tuning — Liow

KUALA LUMPUR: The new trains recently purchased from China are not being used yet for the Ipoh-Padang Besar Electric Train Service (ETS) launched on July 10 because they have to undergo some tuning to the Automatic Train Protection system, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said yesterday.

“There is no problem, actually. It is only that some tuning is needed on the ATP system,” he said in reference to the two train sets recently purchased by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad from CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd.

Existing train sets were being used on the route pending approval from the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) for the new train sets, he told reporters after chairing a meeting of the MCA central executive committee at Wisma MCA.

“I leave it to the technical teams of KTMB and SPAD to evaluate the safety features of the new train sets,” he said when asked to comment on news reports that the new train sets had yet to get SPAD approval to be put into operation. Besides the Ipoh-Padang Besar service, which is a transit service, KTMB also launched the Kuala Lumpur-Padang Besar express service on July 10. — Bernama
