KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) will help Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to tackle the illegal electrical
connection issue in squatter areas in Kota Kinabalu.

Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir said that DBKK was very concerned about the issue and it was ready to cooperate with SESB to locate squatter houses which had made illegal wiring connection.

“These squatter houses are not supposed to make illegal electrical connection from houses that were supplied electrical facility legally by the SESB. Therefore, we will cooperate with the related authorities to look at this
matter before taking any action.

“We will look into a few squatter colonies in Kota Kinabalu areas…and we will do a survey on the location and total number of squatters before we implement a containment policy,” he told reporters after officiating the opening of Geylang Lor 9 francaise restaurant here, today.

He was asked to comment on the DBKK initiative in controlling the illegal electrical wiring issue in squatter areas in Kota Kinabalu, after a fireman, Apolos Jeromos, 25, was killed when he was electrocuted while dousing the flame of a forest fire at Taman Kenari, Batu 7, Sandakan recently.

Abidin hoped that such incident would not happen again in the future and DBKK with the related agencies would take action accordingly on those involved with illegal electrical connection. -Bernama
