SRI AMAN: Community leaders ought to report problems faced by their villages to elected representatives, the Resident’s office or district office.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said this was to ensure that ways are found to solve the problems.

“This should be the main role of our community leaders and village headmen as we do not want the problems faced by our community to be accumulated without solving or discussing them immediately,” she said.

“If we do not solve the matter it will not benefit the community under our jurisdiction,” she added. She was speaking at the Kampung Baru Resettlement Scheme Hari Raya open house at Pulau Seduku on Wednesday night.

On a related matter, the MP for Batang Lupar explained that she did not want to see the people in her constituency left behind by development.

“I want the people to enjoy the fruits of development whether big or small as most importantly we should feel it,” she said.

“I also want to see that community leaders work hard with one another and also the government so that we can bring development to the area,” she added. On Hari Raya, Rohani said it is celebrated by everybody in Malaysia irrespective of race and religion, which makes it very unique.

“The world has high respect for our country with regard to racial harmony and unity. This is because our society lives in peace and harmony,” she pointed out. Present were Welfare Department director Abang Shamshuddin Abang Seruji and village headman Mohd Salleh Jon. The open house was organised by Felcra and attended by some 200 people.
