KOTA KINABALU: The decomposed body of a man who was believed to have committed suicide was found under a tree with a rope round his neck at Bukit Tangki, Pulau Gaya on Wednesday.
The man, whose identity was not immediately known, was found by villagers around 2.50pm in a sitting position with a noose around his neck.
City police chief ACP M. Chandra said initial police investigation showed the man, who was either in his 40s or 50s, had been dead for nearly three weeks.
“The body is also decomposed, making it difficult for identification,” he said yesterday.
Chandra said police believed the victim might have committed suicide by hanging himself from the tree as there was no evidence of any foul play involved.
No missing person report has been lodged and Chandra urged anyone with missing a relative to come forward to assist in their investigation.
