He said this when chairing the main committee meeting of the event at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday. Assistant Minister of Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development and Assistant Minister of Resource Planning Mohd Naroden Majais, deputy State Secretary Datu Misnu Taha and Limbang Resident Maria Hasman were among those present.

Among the activities, he said, would be a thanks giving ceremony in the evening of Aug 30 at the Limbang Divisional Mosque which would be attended by the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and other notable guests.

“There will be the surah yasin, doa, solat maghrib and isyak and zikir marhaban at the mosque.

“After that, there will be an Ambang Merdeka Concert featuring famous and local artistes performing up to the stroke of midnight to usher the National Day. The evening will culminate with a fireworks display,” he said.

The Information Department’s Kembara Merdeka Kempen Jalur Gemilang Convoy will join the event and also to be involved in the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang.

Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of Industrial Development and Minister of Public Utilities, said the highlights of the celebration on Aug 31 would be a rally and parade at Padang Sukan Limbang in the morning, starting with a zumba and Merdeka Run.

The Royal Malaysian Air Force is expected to give an air show while the Malaysian Armed Forces will present an unarmed combat demonstration.

Other entertainments incorporating the local culture would also be included after the march-past of the contingents.

A showcase by entrepreneurs and Limbang Kitchen will be held from Aug 28 to 31.

It will offer various local products including handicraft, cakes apart from food and drinks.

In the afternoon of Aug 31, a power boat race and regatta will take place at Limbang River with the highlight being a race for the ‘Raja Batang Limbang’ title.

Awang Tengah thus called on owners of shops, commercial and government buildings to hoist the state and the national flags to mark the special day.
