MIRI: Curtin University Sarawak’s Faculty of Business and Humanities is becoming an internationally-engaged and research-intensive faculty.

Faculty dean Professor Jonathan Winterton said the faculty will continue to develop new opportunities for learning and engagement with businesses and communities.

He urged new students to take advantage of these opportunities to discover and release their full potential through commitment to serious study.

Winterton said whether joining for foundation courses, an undergraduate degree or at postgraduate level, studying at Curtin Sarawak will increase their options for the future.

“A Curtin business qualification will substantially raise your employability and significantly improve your chances of a rewarding career.

“Rapid and profound economic changes mean that by the time you leave us, the world will be a different place and you must be equipped for continuous learning and adaptation,” he said in a statement.

Curtin’s business courses are aligned with the latest industry trends, with considerable emphasis on decision-making, trends in technology and associated work patterns, and other aspects of management in the highly competitive business arena.

Its School of Business takes full advantage of its strong industry connections in the delivery of its three-year Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) courses, with both single and double majors, designed to develop professional expertise in several relevant areas of specialisation and a range of other skills. It offers single majors in Accounting and in Finance and double-majors in Accounting and Banking, Accounting and Entrepreneurship, Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Entrepreneurship and Marketing, Finance and Management, Finance and Marketing, Management and Marketing, Marketing and Public Relations, Public Relations and Management, as well as Tourism, Hospitality and Marketing.

Graduates with suitable work experience may be considered for admission to graduate courses at Curtin Sarawak and Curtin’s main campus in Perth, as well as other institutions internationally.

In their first year, students study units common to all commerce majors followed by more specialised units. They are also offered flexibility in completing their degrees at Curtin Sarawak or transfer to the main campus for years two and three.

All courses offered at Curtin Sarawak are identical in structure to those at the main campus but students pay Malaysian fees — approximately a third of the fee for exactly the same courses in Australia.

Degrees are awarded under the Australian Qualifications Framework, which ensures Australian qualifications are recognised and accepted throughout the world.

The Faculty of Business and Humanities has highly qualified teaching staff who ensure students are equipped with exceptional forward thinking qualities and cutting edge knowledge to meet the needs of future employers.

Many have worked overseas and can provide an international perspective to the students’ business education, which is increasingly important in today’s global marketplace.
