MIRI: You can now check your pooch into the Pets Hotel Miri – the first of its kind in Borneo – before going for holiday.
Established by a group of animal lovers, the facility is a fun, cage-free daycare centre and accommodation dedicated to dogs.
According to co-founder Natascha Caldenhove, its open-play environment focuses on providing individual care and attention for the pets, adding that its ‘Doggie Garden’ is much like a dog park with an agility course. The place also has no individual kennel caging.
“Dogs will have the freedom to play and roam throughout the day, and enjoy sleeping in comfortable and luxurious rooms at night. Dogs owners are encouraged to bring their pets’ own bedding and food, as we want them to feel that this is their home away from home,” she said.
In explaining her rationale for opening the unique open-concept kennel, Caldenhove said finding suitable boarding for pets such as cats and dogs here had always been a major bugbear for those going for vacation or long business trips.
“How did we get here? This will be a familiar story to every loving pet owner. Although there are boarding services provided by some pet shops here, most of them don’t quite fit the bill. This gave us the idea to introduce this kind of facility or service to dog lovers in Miri.
“After experiencing the heartbreaking kennel and cage-and-crate boarding situation in the majority of facilities, we knew that we had to create an environment that is luxurious, relaxing, clean and less stressful that a dog could ever have while its owner is out of town,” she added.
Since the introduction of the service at the end of June, Caldenhove said they received a lot of good feedback from dog owners, some of whom were also able to check on their pets – thanks to ‘live’ webcams installed in selected rooms.
According to Caldenhove, all rooms are fully air-conditioned and come with tempered glass doors, extravagant bedding and raised standing feeders with stainless steel drinking and feeding bowls. All rooms and suites come with daily housekeeping, feeding, play time and potty breaks, as well as daily brushing and grooming.
“There are add-on such as spa, ‘cuddle time’, ‘busy bone’, ‘ice cream’, walks, personal playtime, cookies, toys and car rides. Almost everything is possible to make a dog’s stay here as comfortable as possible.”
Special pet services such as veterinary appointments, special care or needs, medication and special meals are also available upon request.
Frills include updates by email, Facebook or WhatsApp, including picture of your pet, will be provided daily if owners want to stay in touch.
