KUCHING: School principals must diligently implement all relevant government policies in the interest of the people and country.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who made the call, said he was aware that principals, like others, also have their own opinions and principles towards certain policy or action by the government.

“But I would like to emphasise that as policy implementers, principals must work together with the government to implement enacted government policies for the benefit of the people,” he said at the opening of the 50th Sarawak Secondary School Principals Education Management Conference here yesterday.

The text of his speech was read by Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah. In facing today’s competitive world, Adenan pointed out that principals must also work together to reconstruct management features and appearances as professionals.

This, he said, was in line with the current management trends that gave priorities to leadership and human resource management based on the values of innovation and speed.

“In my opinion, in the context of the changes that exist in today’s society, education leadership must stress the importance of education adjustments in response to changes in the society.

“Education leadership must have the capabilities to carry out constructive social change by identifying weaknesses and then take strategic approaches to address any issue.”

Meanwhile, newly appointed State Education Department director, Rakayah Madon, said the conference would expose delegates to the latest education management and current development in education in Malaysia and the world.

“The four-day conference will serve as a platform for principals from throughout the state to exchange knowledge and experience for their benefit as leaders in their schools.

“We hope that principals, as instructional leaders in schools, can assist in taking the country’s education towards greater heights.”

Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Minister of Welfare Robert Lawson Chuat Vincent Entering, Assistant Ministers of Tourism Datuk Talip Zulpilip and Datuk Gramong Juna and Sarawak Secondary School Principals Association vice president Ibrahim Jamain.
