KOTA KINABALU: Emily Chung Yee Yen, an 18-year-old lass from Inanam, won the prestigious title of Miss Sabah Earth 2015 at the grand final of the beauty pageant held here on Sunday.
Emily also won the subsidiary titles of the Most Popular by Audience Choice and Body Beautiful.
She walked away with RM2,500 cash prize, a trophy, a return air ticket from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur and a sash for the main title, along with RM1,300 cash prize in total for the subsidiary titles.
Meanwhile, the title of Miss Sabah Earth – Air 2015 was won by Felcy Francsie Julian, 18, from Penampang, Miss Sabah Earth – Water 2015 went to Sanjeda John, 23, from Kota Kinabalu and Miss Sabah Earth – Fire 2015 was awarded to Annatasha Shanty Jeremiah, 18, from Penampang.
Apart from a trophy, a Kota Kinabalu-Kuala Lumpur return air ticket and a sash which the trio received, Felcy also took home RM2,000 cash prize, Sanjeda RM1,500 cash prize and Annatasha RM1,000 cash prize.
Sanjeda also won the Best in Evening Gown subsidiary title, which comes with RM800 cash prize.
The top four winners, Emily, Felcy, Sanjeda and Annatasha, will represent Sabah in the Miss Malaysia Earth 2015 pageant in Ipoh on August 9.
The 12 finalists made their first appearance of the night with eco wear and introduction of themselves, followed by beach wear in the second round, much to the excitement of the audience.
In the third and final rounds, the finalists strutted down the runway with elegant and glittery evening wear, winning the hearts of the judges and the crowd.
The pageant, which was held on Sunday night, was graced by the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, and his wife, Datin Mary Wong.
On the subsidiary titles, Falynda Sharon Mathew, 20, from Penampang was voted Most Popular Online and received RM500 cash prize. Most Photogenic went to Kristina Yohanis, 19, from Inanam who took home RM500 cash prize.
Meanwhile, Dewina Petrus Guriting, 24, from Tambunan, Jennifer Lim Yen Thing, 22, from Kota Marudu, and Joyce Chong won the Best in Theme Evening Gown, Most Creative Eco Wear and Best in Theme Eco Wear respectively. They each received RM800 cash prize.
The event also showcased the designs and crafts of 30 semifinalists of the Sabah Golden Designer Award competition. The grand final of the competition will be held on December 4.
