KUCHING: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin accepted the prime minister’s decision with an open heart but remained adamant in his stance on 1MDB.

In a Facebook posting he asserted that as deputy prime minister he had been directly involved in the creation of government policies and carrying out the duties entrusted to him.

“Throughout my service, I have always been supportive of all government policies and supported the leadership of the Prime Minister.

“Except when it comes to the 1MDB issue, I have my own principles and stand in defence of our people, the reputation of the party and the nation’s interests. If I was dropped from the cabinet because of my stance on this issue then I am content.”

He reasserted his loyalty to Umno, and that as its deputy president, he would continue to implement the mandate entrusted to him “and pour out my dedication to strengthen the party and restore Malay and public confidence in Umno.”

Muhyiddin has served as deputy prime minister and education minister since his appointment on April 10, 2009. He is the second deputy prime minister since Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be dropped from his post.

He is among five to be dropped in the cabinet reshuffle today.

“I welcome vigorous debate, and can accept dissent and criticism,” Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said earlier today during his announcement on the cabinet reshuffle.

“However, this process should take place in Cabinet as part of the decision-making process. Members of the Cabinet should not air their difference in an open forum that can affect public opinion against the Government and Malaysia. It is contrary to the concept of collective responsibility that is the foundation of Cabinet Government.”

Muhyiddin was replaced by Home Affairs minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
