KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has welcomed the appointment of Santubong MP Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Sri Aman MP Masir Kujat as minister and deputy minister following the federal cabinet reshuffle yesterday.

Speaking to reporters after attending ‘Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri’ at the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here yesterday, he expressed his happiness that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had appointed the two MPs from Sarawak to the federal cabinet.

“I’m very happy to see that my MP Dato Sri Wan Junaidi is now a full minister and my very good friend Masir Kujat is also a deputy minister,” he said.

However, when asked to comment on the reshuffle including the shocking move by Najib to drop Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin as his deputy, Adenan declined to comment further.

“I have no comments to make at this time. I will make some comments after I know all the full details,” he said.

Najib announced his cabinet reshuffle at a press conference in Putrajaya yesterday, which saw the appointment of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as Deputy Prime Minister as well as seven new ministers and nine new deputy ministers.

Prior to Wan Junaidi’s new appointment, he was Deputy Home Minister whereas for Masir, this is his first foray into the federal cabinet.

Earlier, Adenan and his wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu joined Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Dato’ Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib at the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitria celebration which was organised by the Chief Minister’s Department.

Guests were feted to a sumptuous buffet featuring a wide variety of delicacies ranging from traditional ‘kuih-muih’ and fresh local fruits to popular Malaysian favourites such as satay, ‘mi sapi’ (beef noodles), mee Jawa and more.

During the celebration, guests also enjoyed traditional dance performances and entertainment by singers who sang well-known Hari Raya songs.

Among other prominent guests present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, Second Resource Planning and Environment Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
