KUCHING: The respective alumni of four famous schools will clash again this year for the KGS Captains’ Alumni Golf – YB Tan Sri William Mawan’s Challenge Trophy tournament at Kuching Golf Club (KGS) in Petra Jaya here on Aug 15.

The schools are St Joseph’s Kuching, St Thomas’ Kuching, Sacred Heart Sibu and Tanjong Lobang Miri.

St Joseph’s Kuching, led by Dr David Ling, is the defending champion.

The tournament is open to KGS members.

According to a KGS handout delivered to The Borneo Post yesterday, players must have a NHS handicap of 24 (index 20.0) and below based on Matang and Santubong handicap for the month of Sept 2015 to be eligible.

“The selection of players will be done by the respective captains of the four schools (alumni) based on their last school attended.

“Team captains may substitute any player before the start of the game,” the statement added.

The closing date is Aug 10 at 12pm. Entry fee is RM106 per golfer inclusive of buggy, lunch and GST.

The competition draw shall be performed by the organising committee on Aug 13.

The game is scheduled on a shotgun start at 1.15pm on Aug 15.

On top of this tournament, KGS will also be holding the Sarawak Closed on Oct 15 and Sarawak Nett Community Golf on Nov 5.

Yesterday, KGS tournament chairman Ting Kee Suen and committee member Khaira Singh as well as Ling, who is also KGS captain, and St Thomas’s team captain Wilfred Landong paid a courtesy call on Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.

Mawan subsequently handed them a government grant of RM 60,000 to finance the three tournaments.
