BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday went for the Ziarah (visit) to the Royal Mausoleum at Jalan Tutong for the Tahlil ceremony for His Majesty’s late parents Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness ‘Abdul Mateen and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel.
Upon arriving, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and members of the royal family were welcomed by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr. Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti. who also led the recitation of the Tahlil and Doa Tahlil.
Following the Tahlil and Doa, His Majesty then poured ‘air asah-asahan’ (scented water) on the tombs of His Majesty’s late parents, and this was followed by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel.
Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien passed away on 3rd of Muharram 1407 Hijrah corresponding to September 7, 1986 while Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit passed away on 20th of Syawal 1399 Hijrah corresponding to September 13, 1979.
Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien was crowned as the 28th Sultan of Brunei after Al-Marhum’s older brother, Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Akhazul Khairi Waddin passed away in 1950. Al-Marhum was a loving Monarch and far sighted. Al-Marhum is fondly known as the Architect of Modern Brunei for turning the country into a developing nation. Among the most important events during Al-Marhum’s reign was the establishment of the State Constitution, and policies on education, religion, security, communications and the welfare of the country’s citizens and residents.
Also present at the ceremony were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the State Councils, Deputy Ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri, Manteri-Manteri Pedalaman, Permanent Secretaries and Senior Government Officers.
