KOTA KINABALU: Newly-appointed Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Tun Said said yesterday he would serve the government to the best of his ability and ensure that policies under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak were fully implemented.

The former Sabah chief minister said he would be a team player as expected by Najib so that everything could be implemented effectively for the benefit of the people.

“I wish to thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for his trust in appointing me to the Cabinet. I would also like to thank Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman for supporting my appointment.

“Insya Allah (God willing), I will give my best. Just like what the Prime Minister said we need a solid team to implement government policies as expected by the people,” he told reporters at his residence here.

Salleh said that as a leader who had been entrusted by the leadership, he would take into account all matters in discharging his duties despite the many challenges in the multimedia sector.

On negative perceptions raised by certain parties to tarnish the government’s image, he said, “Perception is new in politics. Our job is to address the negative perceptions by explaining to the people about government policies and the objective to bring change to Malaysia.”

He said that parties that sowed negative perceptions had a hiddden agenda compared with the government’s well meaning policies.

“Political competition is normal in a democratic system but we want to create healthy competition. We have to reject lies and distortion of statements.” — Bernama
