KUCHING: Organisers are so pleased that 40 teams registered for this year’s Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Invitational Football League that they promised they would allow up to 48 next year.

The league, which is being played every weekend to Oct 11, was launched last Sunday at Padawan Sports Complex in Siburan by State Legislative Assembly deputy speaker and Tarat assemblyman Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

Besides having ex-state players, organisers have also permitted teams to field ‘import’ (non-Malaysian) players to generate greater interest.

Matches are played at Padawan Sports Complex and Kampung Seratau Football Field.

The top three teams will receive cash prizes of RM3000, 2000 and 1500.

Padawan Football Club are the joint organisers with MPP this year.

Also present during the launching ceremony were tournament organising chairman Wadel Boyod, MPP deputy chairman Dr Zaiiedi Suhaili, council secretary Andrew Joris Noyen, and councillors Edward Kurik and Zainudin Morshidi.
