KUALA LUMPUR: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Service (Cuepacs) wants the government to review the salaries of civil servants by giving a pay hike of 35 per cent when tabling the Budget in October.
Its president Datuk Azih Muda said Cuepacs had voiced the matter during its discussion with the government last May prior to the launch of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) relating to several matters that needed to be enacted in the next five-year period.
“We thank the government for fixing the new housing adjustment rate at RM300, the lowest which is effective from this Nov 1 but at the same time, we are facing all kinds of issues and daily challenges, especially the rising costs of living,” he said at the Cuepacs Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering here yesterday.
He said Cuepacs hoped the government would also introduce the minimum wage for the public sector and resolve the request for 252 salary schemes and service allowance be reviewed and improved.
Azih said Cuepacs also wanted the government to review income tax relief for civil servants. — Bernama
