Saba and First Division officials posing with trainers and boxers after the visit to Muara Tuang Army Camp on Tuesday.

KUCHING: State boxers will go for their centralised training in an army base here soon to prepare for next year’s Sukma.

Sarawak Boxing Association (Saba) officials visited the venue – First Division Army Headquarters at Muara Tuang Army Camp – on Tuesday.

“We specifically chose the First Division Army Headquarters as it has adequate facilities. They too have trainers who are capable of training the state athletes,” Saba secretary Azli Karim said.

The Saba delegation headed by Datuk Rahman Lariwoo was welcomed by Lieutenant-Colonel Azman Zainuddin, the commanding officer of the 10th Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment, and Major NN Amri Johari, the First Division boxing team manager.

The centralised training will be under the supervision of state head coach Fred Mandagi who was satisfied with the facilities he saw.

“They (the First Divsion boxing team) have good trainers and I sure hope that the state boxers will take this opportunity to learn from them too. Sharing ideas certainly adds up to the development between boxers of each team,” he said.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the upcoming Golden Glove tournament to be held in Kuching.

Interested parties can contact Azli at 019-8211975 or 01118557579.

Nine weight categories are expected to be contested for the event.
