KUCHING: A motorcyclist perished in a road accident yesterday after colliding head-on with a pick-up truck at Mile 11 Kuching-Serian Road.

The deceased, 24-year-old Sylvester Giman, died at the scene from serious head injuries sustained following the 1.15pm crash.

Sylvester is said to have been riding along the main road when he was unable to avoid a pick-up truck, which had exited from a junction in front of him.

The subsequent collision between the two also affected a second motorcyclist, who clipped the edge of the four-wheel drive vehicle and fell off his machine.

Personnel from the Civil Defence Department and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) were despatched to the scene to assist following calls made by the public.

However, Sylvester was pronounced dead at the scene after checks by medical personnel found no vital signs.

The driver of the pick-up truck was unhurt in the incident, while the second motorcyclist received medical attention after complaining of pain in his one of his arms.

Traffic police officers were on hand to document the fatal collision and later transported the body to SGH for a post-mortem.

In a separate matter, a teacher suffered serious head injuries after he collided with another motorcyclist while on his way to work yesterday.

The 33-year-old from Jalan Batu Kitang was travelling towards Serian around 6.30am when he crashed into a motorcycle ridden by a 15-year-old boy, who was making a turn into Tapah Village from the opposite direction.

The collision left the teacher with serious head injuries, which resulted in him being admitted into the Red Zone at Sarawak General Hospital, while the teen sustained minor injuries and was given outpatient treatment.
