KUCHING: Two brothers were bashed and robbed by a group of suspected ‘Mat Rempits’ after stopping at the old State Legislative Assembly complex in Petra Jaya here on Wednesday.

The 21- and 23-year-old siblings were on a motorcycle heading to their house in Sejingkat when they stopped at the complex around 8.30pm to have a cigarette.

According to them, a group of more than two dozen males- believed to be illegal street racers – showed up riding several motorcycles and surrounded them before asking for money.

When the brothers told them they did not have any cash, the group got off their machines and began to bash them using motorcycle helmets, rotan sticks and an iron bar.

As the victims collapsed, the attackers took turns to stomp on them before relieving one of the brothers of his tablet phone.

The group then got on their motorcycles and began revving the machines loudly before speeding off.

The battered brothers sought the help of security personnel at a booth not far away to call for an ambulance and to notify their family of the incident.

Both were sent to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment before they lodged a police report.
