KUCHING: Executive College (EC) held a food donation drive known as ‘Give 2015’ in collaboration with Hope Place Kuching, every Tuesday and Thursday of this month.

The charity initiative was organised for the first time by EC’s Diploma in Quantity Surveying Year 2 students as part of their compulsory MPU co-curriculum project. The aim of the donation drive was to encourage and develop students’ soft skills especially in community management.

Donations in cash were also received and were used to purchase food and personal care items. EC students and staff contributed to the event in terms of food such as rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, Milo, canned food and personal care items such as diapers for both adults and children. The total contribution received was more than RM4,000. Some students and staff will follow the Kuching Hope Place team to deliver the donations to the needy and under privilege in Kuching.

Kuching Hope Place is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that visits the poor and less fortunate families to contribute some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles. Many of these families or individuals earned barely enough to get through the month, hence, many are grateful for the assistance of these basic necessities delivered to them. For families with children with special needs, or with elderly people, they provide milk powder and diapers as well.

It also carries out aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on their recipients list. Currently they support 123 families.

For more information on how you can help, Hope Place can be reached at 013-5672775 from 9am to noon Mondays to Fridays. Should the public be interested to make a donation, please request for a receipt from the staff at Hope Place.

For direct bank-in, please do so to Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching at their Maybank account No. 5112-8900-1160.

Executive College will be having an Info Day at its campus on Aug 15 from 9am to 4pm. There will be campus tour, student counselling, demonstration of innovative teaching and learning facilities, personality test, interactive games and mystery gifts to give away. Parents and students will have the chance to meet respective programme heads.

The college is located at 2nd floor, Crown Square, Kuching and is open from 8am to 5pm Mondays to Fridays. Registration for Sept 2015 intake is now open. Call 082-345680 for more information.
