KUCHING: A Primary 4 pupil almost lost his eyesight when a pair of scissors pierced his face within an inch of his left eye and lodged firmly there during recess yesterday morning.

The incident happened at a school in Kota Samarahan around 10am when the 10-year-old was eating at the canteen with his friends.

According to sources, a pupil seated nearby was playing with a large pair of scissors – twirling it on his fore finger in front of other students at the table – when it flew off and stabbed the victim just below his eye.

The shocked pupils alerted a teacher. An ambulance was summoned to send the young boy to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Heart Centre in Samarahan where he was referred to SGH here for further treatment.

Doctors removed the lodged pair of scissors from the boy’s face after checks revealed that it posed no danger to his eye or eyesight. The victim who was admitted to hospital is in stable condition following the traumatic experience.
