AirAsia set for long term growth in Dhaka

KUCHING: AirAsia Bhd (AirAsia) officially launched the recent commencement of direct flight from Dhaka to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at a special ceremony, signifying a new beginning for the people of Bangladesh in terms of connectivity.

The momentous ceremony was attended by Aireen Omar, chief executive officer of AirAsia with honourable guests from Bangladesh authorities.

Omar said, “We have previously carried over 240,000 guests on this route when we operated the direct flights.

“We are confident that we will be able to grow this number even further as we are back with even stronger flight frequencies.

“Bangladeshis will be pleased to know that they can now fly to Singapore, Brunei or other parts of Asia and Australia for business or leisure through our extensive flight network.

“Given our existing strong bilateral ties with Bangladesh especially in trade and investment, AirAsia is glad to bolster the relationship even further with our World’s Best services at exceptionally low fares,” added the CEO.

Amir Hossain Amu, Minister of Industries said that up till June 2014, The Board of Investment Authority of Bangladesh (BOI) registered an investment of over US$1,643 million from Malaysia, making Malaysia one of the biggest foreign investors in Bangladesh.

“That is why I am extremely pleased to see AirAsia reviving this route that would bridge the two countries with daily flights and forge an even stronger tie between us,” he added.

“I believe that it would definitely stimulate economy growth for both countries with business and tourism travelling taking place between us.”
