PUTATAN: Umno Putatan Youth has proposed that individual tax should not be imposed on those with a monthly earning of RM5,000.

The division youth head Shahelmey Yahya said the tax exemption was some of the resolutions passed during the  movement’s annual delegates meeting held here on Friday.

“We urge the government to urgently address the issue of rising cost of living. Accordingly, we proposed that the current individual income tax exemption ceiling be increased to the salary level of RM5,000 per month to enable individuals to support their daily lives.

“The proposal was  approved unanimously by the delegates during the meeting,” he added.

Shahelmey said the meeting also suggested that the teaching of Islamic religious subjects in schools to also include the interpretation of the Quran.

“”We believe understanding the Quran will form individuals who are knowledgeable, virtuous and successful,” he added.

Shahelmey said they also proposed to the government to increase the current entry quotas for students from poor families and those from the rural areas to higher learning institutions in the country.

“This is important because we also want to see that children from poor families and rural areas are not left behind in attaining higher education (diploma and above) so they can change their future for the better,” he reasoned.

In another development, Shahelmey said Umno Putatan Youth also strongly supported the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd.Najib Tun Razak as Umno president and recent federal cabinet reshuffle which saw the removal of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Deputy Prime Minister and a few other politicians from the federal administration.
