KENINGAU:  Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan  said all members must cooperate and work harder to make  PBS  a party that is truly multiracial.

“As a member of a party whose concept is multiracial, our duty is to share the goodness, with the slogan, “united we stand, divided we fall,” he said in his speech at the Liawan Divisional PBS  annual general meeting held at Youth Arena Hall here, yesterday.

He said members should emphasize unity through the spirit of understanding and cooperation, and respected by friend and foe.

Pairin, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, said PBS wanted the people here to have education and skills, including high positions and to have the opportunities provided by the government.

However, he said PBS required cooperation not only in the division but also from branches, to contribute ideas to strengthen the party.

“We must be serious in giving our views and play a role at divisional and branch levels  and I believe unity among the people here through PBS, has increased.”

Touching on WhatsApp, Pairin who is also the minister of Infrastructure Development, asked party members not to be influenced by things that were being spread widely through the social media.

According to him, much of the information disseminated through WhatsApp were incorrect and made-up.

“We can read, but at the same time we also have to use our wisdom to make judgments so as not to succumb to the lies being disseminated.

“Party members should take into account the information disseminated through WhatsApp  and not to accept it without doing a more thorough evaluation,” he said.

On elections during the AGM, Pairin asked party members to make it as a family competition in accordance with  procedures and the party constitution.

He said those who lost in this election should continue the struggle with sincerity and loyalty to the party.
