Miri hosting inaugural state extreme sports championship

MIRI: Miri is currently hosting the fi rst ever state-level Extreme Sports Championship at Skate Park, Taman Awam from July 31 to Aug 2. The 3-day event is jointly organized by Miri Youth and Sport Offi ce under the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Senadin Sport Recreational Club (KSRS).

It has attracted 30 youths from Miri, Bintulu, Kuching, Sabah and Brunei. Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai said the competition was an avenue for enthusiasts to showcase their talent while inculcating discipline and a healthy lifestyle.

The text of his speech was read on his behalf by Cr. Kok Yung Kai at the launching ceremony.

He also hailed the facilities at Skate Park which provided the battle ground for such activities. Meanwhile, Ministry of Youth and Sport Miri branch offi cer Stephanie Wendy Stamfort disclosed that winners of the three main categories – skateboard, in-line and BMX – will represent Sarawak at the national-level championship in Kuala Lumpur in Oct. The event is also held with the support of Miri Oil Town Skateboarding Club and Kuching Division Extreme Sport Association (KiDSA).
