PENAMPANG: Sixteen people, including three children, were trapped in the elevators of a shopping mall in Donggongon township here yesterday.

According to Penampang Fire and Rescue Department senior officer II, Benny Lim, the fire station received a distress call at 11.22am, and arrived at the scene a minute later.

He said that five elevators were jammed, trapping the 16 people at different floors.

“There were no injuries and everyone made it out safely,” he said yesterday.

KJ, 25, and Joe, 20, were trapped in between the first and second floor when the fire and rescue personnel found them.

“We were in there for about 35 minutes,” said KJ.

The rescue operation completed about 12.05pm.
