TAWAU: The marine police detained an Indonesian skipper for failure to report out to the Tawau immigration post and an Indonesian man for bringing out 144 machetes without customs permit on Saturday.

Sabah Marine Police Team Commander ACP Mohamad Madun yesterday said the 20-year-old skipper from Sungai Nyamuk, Indonesia failed to report at the post while the 47-year-old passenger from Nunukan, Indonesia did not possess any identification document apart from having no permit to bring out the machetes.

He said the marine cops were patrolling in a boat at the waters at Ice Box area when they spotted a passenger speedboat heading towards Sungai Nyamuk around 1pm.

They intercepted the boat and found it was carrying two gunny bags of the machetes.

The passenger claimed the machetes belonged to him but failed to show any customs documents or permits to bring them out.

He will also be charged under the Immigration Act for entering the country illegally.
