JOHOR BAHARU: The chairman of the Johor Umno Liaison Body, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin yesterday urged the party leadership to listen to its members, starting with the grassroots.

Mohamed Khaled said this was important as the grassroots had always been supporters of the party.

“This is no longer the era when the leaders are treated as demi-gods and the feudal culture is not that of Umno,” he said when officiating the Pasir Gudang Division Wanita Umno Conference here yesterday.

According to the Johor Menteri Besar, Umno members must also come forward to state their views especially at such conferences.

He said Umno, which was the problem solver for the race and party, would have no value if it did not serve for the good of the people and religion.

He also urged Wanita Umno to be more pro-active and be a dominant observer.

“Wanita Umno must emulate the struggles of the pioneer women leaders of the past such as Puan Seri Cikgu Balkis Abdullah, Puan Khatijah Sidek and Tan Sri Zainun Munshi Sulaiman or Ibu Zain who had contributed much to the party,” he said. — Bernama
