KUCHING: Sarawak’s Hydro Icon Sdn Bhd (Hydro Icon), who specialises in design, engineering and construction of water and wastewater treatment equipment and systems bagged the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards this year.

Enterprise Asia said it identified the BIMP-EAGA region as an important part of its expansion plans in order to continue with its entrepreneurship development agenda in the region and help the entrepreneurs and the economy to grow.

“We are already present in over 16 countries in Asia, promoting entrepreneurship through our various programs and initiatives; engaging the BIMP-EAGA region has allowed us to further reach out entrepreneurs, who, perhaps, had limited access to such platforms as the APEA,” said chairman Tan Sri Dr Fong Chan Onn.

When asked about the process of selecting participants and winners, he had this to say, “We study various organisations and their CEO’s or directors for the duration of six months to a year, regardless of the industry they represent.

“Winners are selected only after they’ve satisfied these rigorous and stringent processes, and of course, not all participants emerge as winners.”

The awardees of the prestigious Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2015 show authenticity. The award honours the real driving force behind entrepreneurs today, which is often the boldness to rake risks and embark on dreams; to stand tall as the leaders in their industries, leaving legacy in place.

Managing director of Hydro Icon, Bobby Ting Sie Ching accepted the award with key members of staff who he sites the true winners of the award.

“This award wouldn’t have been possible without all the great thinkers and physical hard work of my team. We have always been the underdogs in the fiercely competitive and highly saturated construction industry.

“We always knew from the start that we had to have a point of difference, that starting small and building from our successes and mistakes would make us stronger,” Ting said.
