KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, struck northern Sumatera in Indonesia at 3.55 am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
It said in a statement that the epicentre of the quake was 139km southwest of Bandar Acheh, Sumatera, and 613km southwest of Langkawi, Kedah.
The quake did not pose a tsunami threat, it added. — BERNAMA
