MIRI: Assistant Sports Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin hopes to see extreme sport expand with more participants and fans.

But he has also called on Miri Youth and Sport Office to develop the sport stage by stage particularly in providing professional coaches.

“Having professional coaches, they will able to guide the skaters and thus to prepare them for professional level competition in the future,” he said at the closing ceremony of state-level Extreme Sports Championship 2015, on Sunday.

“Extreme sport needs professional guidance as it normally involves a high risk action and danger,” he added.

50 youths from Miri, Bintulu, Kuching, Sabah and Brunei competed in the three-day event.

Champion in the open aggressive inline skate category was Mohd Hafiz Razli from Bintulu followed by Miri’s Azizee Mohammad and Mohd Asyurul Ikhwan from Bintulu.

The skateboard open category was won by Pengiran Putra Hidayattullah from Brunei with Bintulu’s Mohd Zainul and Miri’s Alistair Arthur second and third respectively.

In the skateboard junior category, the champion was Pierson Dan from Miri. Mohd Ali Ridzuan from Kuching was second Pengiran Danish Farhan from Brunei third.

All winners will represent Sarawak in the national-level championship to be held in Kuala Lumpur in Oct.
