KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman yesterday urged board members of Sabah statutory bodies to manage the finances of the organisations they were entrusted with, with integrity.

Speaking at the 2015 course for Sabah Statutory Bodies Board members at a resort near here yesterday, Musa said they must ensure that no leakages occurred in their organisations and they must utilise the funds available with integrity.

He warned them against having any idea of siphoning the funds through investment activities that were not considered a priority, or abusing the power vested in them.

Instead, they should continue to carry out the tasks given to them, he advised.

He reminded that the funds available did not belong to them but to the government and the people.

Nevertheless, Musa mentioned that most of the state government’s statutory bodies were trustworthy and had provided commendable outcomes.

“Basing on the Accountability Index rating by the auditor-general, we are proud because for three consecutive years Sabah has achieved the highest number of organisations that have been given the four star rating as compared to other states in Malaysia,” he said.

He added that in 2014, out of the 35 organisations audited, 24 were given the four star rating and this had been the highest achievement for Sabah so far.

“Out of the 24 organisations, six comprised state statutory bodies such as Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO), Rural Development Corporation (KPD), Sabah Rubber Industry Board (LIGS), Sabah Ports Board (LPPB), Sabah Forestry Development Authority (SAFODA) and Ko-Nelayan.”

He also informed that there were state government agencies that had never paid dividends before but were now ready to do so to the state government.

“This is a very good development and it is hoped that more state government agencies would do so in the future,” he said.

On the course, Musa commended on the huge turnout of 223 participants and said the course was beneficial in fostering better awareness on the roles played by the members.

“Ensure that the running of your organisation is carried out according to legislation and you cannot go wrong … each agency must be efficient in management; and acquire success and be profitable. (In this way) Those with debts will be able to repay the debts, and those without debts will be able to pay dividends,” he said.
