Sabah BN Backbenchers Club supports appointment of Syed Abas

KOTA KINABALU: The Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) of the Sabah state assembly fully supported the appointment of Balung
assemblyman, Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali, as the new Speaker of the Sabah state legislative assembly.

BNBBC chairman, Datuk Abdul Rahim Ismail said he was confident that Syed Abas who has headed various government agencies prior to his appointment, was the right candidate to be the Speaker of the Sabah state legislative assembly.

“I, on behalf of my colleagues in Sabah BNBBC, fully supported Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali’s appointment as Speaker of the state legislative assembly,” he said in a statement here today.

As members of the assembly, he said BNBBC was open to any views and suggestions from the new Speaker, especially in the course of performing their duties during assembly sitting.

“We also like to commend Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman for appointing a political figure who meets the criteria as the Speaker of the state legislative assembly,” he said.

The appointment of Syed Abas as state assembly Speaker was announced by Musa in a statement on Monday. Syed Abas is scheduled to resume duty as new Speaker of the Sabah state legislative assembly on Friday. -Bernama
