KUALA LUMPUR: The KL City Grand Prix practice session scheduled for 8.45 am Friday was postponed to 2 pm due to remedial works to the circuit involving several roads in the city.

The chief steward, James Leong, said the decision on the postponement was made upon confirmation from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) track inspector at 8.15 am.

“All practice and race programmes for this morning will start after all remedial works to the circuit are completed.

“The provisional time for the start of all sessions now will be 2 pm, subject to the satisfaction of the stewards upon re-inspection of the track at 1.30 pm,” he said.

It is understood that the hiccup arose because Kuala Lumpur was hosting a street race for the first time ever in the history of Malaysian motorsports.

The KL City GP, a supersports car racing festival at the circuit specially designed along major roads in Kuala Lumpur would see various GT car races such the Lamborghini Super Cup, Formula Masters, Porsche Carrera Cup and Audi R8 LMS Cup apart from a demonstration of the five best V8 supercars series teams.

The race would start at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and would be run along Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Pinang and finish at the KLCC. — BERNAMA
