KUCHING: The Kuching City South Council (MBKS) is organising the MBKS Mayor’s Cup football competition in conjunction with the Kuching City Festival celebrations.

Eight teams each have confirmed for the Veteran Mixed and Youth Under-16 categories to be played over two weekends starting Aug 15 at Jubilee Ground.

Organising chairman Councillor Irwan Zulkarnain Hasbie said the eight teams in the Veteran Mixed competition are MBKS A, MBKS B, Inland Revenue Department, Jais, Sarawak Housing Development Commission, Kuching Ports Authority, Maritime and Kuching District Education Office.

“The teams for the Under-16 competition are First Touch, Yayasan Sarawak, Coneli Tigers, Jannet PC, Cantik 16, Marr SC, PIBG SMK Santubong and SMK Bako,” he said in a press conference at MBKS building yesterday.

Champions of the Veteran Mixed will receive RM2,000, challenge trophy, trophy and souvenirs, first runners-up RM1,000, trophy and souvenirs while the joint third placings shall each get RM300 and souvenirs.

As for the U16 champions, they shall get RM1,000, challenge trophy, trophy and souvenirs.

The first runners-up will receive RM900, trophy and souvenirs while the joint third placings will each get RM250 and souvenirs.

“A special feature in this year’s competition is that all teams must include at least two non-Bumiputera players. This is not only to encourage the non-Bumiputeras to play football but also to promote unity under the 1Malaysia concept and it is in line with the unity city concept,” said Irwan.

He received the challenge trophies from MBKS Mayor James Chan.
