Over 100 exhibits identified at Sulu gunmen trial

KOTA KINABALU: A police forensic officer identified in the High Court here exhibits that he had received from a senior police officer during an Ops Daulat operation on March 13, 2013.

DSP Zuraimi Zam Zam identified more than 100 exhibits produced before Justice Stephen Chung as the exhibits that he had received from an intelligence officer Inspector Jamirin Kintai for forensic examinations by the witness team.

Under further examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar yesterday, the 111th witness had so far identified among others, firearms, ammunition, sharp weapons and clothing that were found by the 11th Battalion General Operation Force.

The witness was giving his oral testimony in the trial of 30 accused persons, including one woman and a nephew of the late self-styled Sulu Sultanate III, Datu Amirbahar Hushin Kiram, who face various charges of committing terrorism acts.

They were apprehended during separate operations throughout Ops Sulu (later known as Ops Daulat) at several places in Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak and Sandakan between February 12 and April 10, 2013.

Waging war against the King carries the mandatory death sentence while the other charges provide for an imprisonment for life and a fine, upon conviction.

The trial, held at a hall which doubled as an open court at the Kepayan prisons here under tight security checks by police and prison personnel, will continue on August 10.
