KUCHING: Eight teams are vying for honours in the inaugural Dato President Cup tennis championship which kicked off at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) tennis centre on Friday.

Drawn in Group A of the team competition are PTBS, MPS Master, Greensport 2 and

Sukma while teams in Group B are SLTA-Greensport, Dare Double, Sarawak Club and KDLTA.

SLTA president Dato Patrick Liew said the championship provides a platform for players to showcase their skills and also as competition exposure for the Sukma shadow team members in preparation for Sukma XVIII

to be hosted by Sarawak next year.

“After having organised four international tennis competitions this year, we are now having a tournament for local players,” he said.

The tournament, organised jointly by SLTA and Greensports, offers RM1,500, medals and the challenge trophy to the champions while the runners-up shall receive RM750 and medals and losing semi-finalists to get RM400 and medals.
