KUCHING: It is crucial for the PBB machinery to be up and ready in preparing for the next state election, which could be called anytime soon.

The party’s deputy president Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg reminded every PBB member to hold firm to the unity that had been keeping them together all this while.

“PBB is the backbone of BN (Barisan Nasional) in Sarawak. What I hear is that only two component parties are strong – us and PRS. Those in SUPP and UPP (United People’s Party), SPDP and TERAS (Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak) are having problems, although they all are in BN,” he remarked during a ‘Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri’ hosted by PBB Muara Tuang on Saturday.

Abang Johari said that for the next polls, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem had come up with a formula, in which every BN candidate must be people-friendly and have that winnability factor.

“This is why State Legislative Assembly member (Muara Tuang assemblyman) Dato Sri Mohammad Ali Mahmud has brought us here tonight to this five-star hotel – because we want to make Sarawak a ‘five-star’ state. We are one people – you all must play your roles well.”

On Muara Tuang, Abang Johari said he was impressed at how the state constituency had progressed from just being a settlement of villages to becoming the state’s ‘City of Knowledge’ today.

“This is the transformation that the BN government can bring the people, especially those in rural areas.”

He also said through his Housing Ministry, he would draft a new housing policy where the people could own a unit for under RM250,000.

The Hari Raya gathering was also attended by Assistant Minister of Housing Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang and Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo.
