KUCHING: SLTA-Greensports lifted the first Dato President Cup title at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) tennis centre when they edged arch-rival Persatuan Tenis Bumiputera Sarawak (PTBS) 2-1 in a closely fought final last Sunday.

Shawn Lee and Lo Zhi Han gave SLTA-Greensports their first point when they beat Zainoren Alek and Rahmat Borhan 6-1, 6-1 in the second doubles.

Shuari Zawawi and Syahmi Eshan leveled the score 1-1 for PTBS when they outplayed Brandon Wong-Leslie Jong 6-2, 0-6 (11-9) in the first doubles.

The deciding third doubles saw Nic and Galvin Yeo overcoming the challenge from Mohd Norhairi and Mohamad Zaki 6-3, 6-2.

This was the second team crown for SLTA-Greensports. They won the state Inter-Team tournament earlier in the year.

All matches were played simultaneously at 4:30pm as the schedule was disrupted by heavy rain for more than two hours.

SLTA-Greensports had topped Group B when they blanked Dare Double, Sarawak Club and Kuching Division Lawn Tennis Association all by a 3-0 margin. It was also a 3-0 win against Sukma 3-0 in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, PTBS led Group A after beating Greensports 2 (3-0), MRs Master (3-0) and Sukma (2-1).

They entered the final after thumping Sarawak Club 3-0 in the semi-finals.

SLTA president Dato Patrick Liew closed the event and gave away the prizes.
