SIBU: Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee has assured the people that he would assist them – even those outside his constituency – in obtaining help from the government, including funding.

“I have been tasked to look into the needs of those in areas such as Dudong, Pelawan and Bukit Assek – all of which are currently under the opposition,” he told reporters after handing over allocations under his Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant to seven non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at the Nangka Constituency Service Centre here recently.

Dr Annuar said with only two Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen – the other being Local Government and Community Development Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who oversees Bawang Assan – they both had large areas to cover.

On another note, Dr Annuar said he was working closely with local youth NGOs to find ways of creating more employment opportunities for young people here.

“It is important that the strategic location of Sibu as the central region of the state be capitalised upon, in tapping into SCORE opportunities.”

Dr Annuar opined if this could be done, it would be a step forward to transform this town into becoming the state’s economic hub or perhaps, one of its key administrative centres.

“I’m optimistic that the young people have new ideas on making this riverine town more vibrant,” he added.
