LIMBANG: Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail will be re-nominated to defend his seat for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming state polls.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said besides Dr Abdul Rahman, Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang will get to defend his seat.

“For Bukit Kota constituency we have none other than Dr Rahman while there is great possibility that Paulus will defend his Batu Danau seat. Both did great jobs in serving the electorates in their respective constituencies, so the people should continue to support them,” Adenan said at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering at Dewan Suarah Limbang on Tuesday night.

Others present were his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Jamilah Anu, State Legislative Assembly Speaker (DUN) Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Second Resource Planning and Environment Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Dr Abdul Rahman, Paulus and Limbang Resident Maria Hasman.

On another matter, Adenan said he was happy with the recent Court of Appeals’ decision to approve the proposal for 11 new state constituencies.

“We are happy with the outcome to have additional 11 new seats in DUN although it is not good news for the opposition political parties. The additional seats are vital so that all districts will each have an elected representative.”

On the development of Sarawak since he took office as Chief Minister, Adenan said there had been much emphasis on rural development which had been lagging.

“In this respect, I seek for additional RM500 million especially for rural development projects.

“Among them are the construction of bridges at Long Lama, Bako, Sibuti and the Limbang second bridge which is expected to shorten travelling distance from Miri when completed,” he said.

Besides that, he added, tolls for Baram and Lanang bridges had been abolished and charges for 12 ferries had been reduced to RM1 while discussions were ongoing make Salahuddin bridge in Kuching toll-free.

“In addition the government waged an all-out war against illegal immigrants, illegal fishing besides freezing licenses to outside investors for oil palm plantations in Sarawak.

“Rest assured, given another mandate by the people, I will continue to do my best in asking Petronas to increase oil royalty from five percent to 20 percent to Sarawak, reducing our electricity tariff and also continue other development projects for the people,” he stressed.
