KUCHING: Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and CMS Property Development Sdn Bhd (CMSPD) will be using the latest green technology in future housing development.

The two developers signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Borneo PlasTech Sdn Bhd here yesterday to use Borneo PlasTech’s shallow inspection chamber and manhole system in their future projects.

Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg who witnessed the signing said this new technology was not only environment-friendly but cost-effective.

“The use of this new product can reduce the cost of construction compared with conventional methods.

“The technology is suitable for underground piping for all utilities, and they are easier to fix and install,” he said.

The products widely used in Australia come with a 20-year warranty and are recyclable.

Signing the MoU on behalf of HDC yesterday was its chairman Datuk Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen while CMSPD was represented by the group managing director Datuk Richard Curtis and M Yakub M Tufail signed for Borneo PlasTech.

Yakub who is chairman of Borneo PlasTech Sdn Bhd or BPT said the mission of its founders was to supply the best value and highest quality industrial products by continuously adapting and innovating to enhance their competitive edge.

“As a Sarawak-born company, we have adapted the design of our products – particularly our signature MOVA® Shallow Manhole and Inspection Chamber range – to local conditions, while conforming to internationally recognised Sirim standards and ISO certifications,” he said.

He said the MoU yesterday was an endorsement by HDC and CMSPD of the usability of BPT’s MOVAs in relation to how much improvements can be made to their development projects in terms of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, logistics, environmental benefits and other factors.
