MIRI: Women Entrepreneurs and Professional Sarawak (Weps) is working on a ‘Malaysia Women Day Celebration 2015’ to be held at Gymkhana Club Miri here on Aug 23.

According to the organising secretary, Teresa Hii, the event would be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Welfare, Women and Family Development, Resident and District Office and other women non-governmental organisations (NGOs) here.

“This is an important event for the association, an annual event, to celebrate and recognise the contributions of women to all levels of society.

“Through this we hope to increase greater awareness among the public about the roles of women and to inspire women of diverse background and cultures in the country,” she said yesterday.

Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah is expected to grace the auspicious occasion.

Hii also said they had lined up several interesting activities for the occasion, the significant ones being two talks on ‘Aging Gracefully’ and ‘Women of the 21st Century’. Others were cooking and flower arrangement contests and the presentation of Women Social Contribution and Women Entrepreneur awards.

“There will also be a Zumba session in the morning and the day will end with prize and award presentation ceremony during lunch.

“We have extended invitation to more than 30 local women NGOs to join in the meaningful day to make it merrier.
